Somber mood and heart breaks have engulfed people of Kamusombeni Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Simulemba in the central district of Kasungu as a 12 year old boy has killed his own cousin in the course of hunting for birds.
Kasungu Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO) Edwin Kaunda has confirmed to The Maravi Post the death of a 19 year-old young man, Simon Ngulube who died on Saturday, August 22, 2015 upon being hacked with an axe.
In an exclusive interview with The Maravi Post on Sunday, August 23, 2015, the Kasungu Police Publist Kaunda said on this fateful day the two went into the nearby bush hunting for birds, they caught a bird locally known as chinziri which became a borne of their contention.
“Later, the deceased and the cousin started quarrelling of the ownership of the said bird. In the process the 12 year old boy who had an axe, decided to hit his cousin Simon Ngulube on the head, who as a result collapsed down. Some of their friends rushed to the deceased father, Moses Ngulube informing him on what had happened to his son who hurried to the scene and found son lying down on the ground in a pool of blood.
“The deceased was taken immediately to Mnyanja Health Centre in the same area where he was referred to Kasungu District Hospital as postmortem results revealed that Simon died due to severe loss of blood”, elaborates Kaunda.
Kaunda however said the police were yet to question the young offender.
