Last night, The First Lady Gertrude Mutharika, delivered a keynote address at the commemoration of Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day at the National Mall in Washington DC, USA with calls for an end to uncoordinated waste disposal across the world and the provision of sanitation services to all.
In her address, the First Lady also called on the world to take immediate action to end extreme poverty and solve climate change.
The First Lady shared the stage with several world leaders such as United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde and celebrities such as Usher and Fall Out Boys.
Earth Day was set aside to broaden, diversify and mobilize the environmental movement on the conservation of natural resources. It is the regarded as the largest civic observance in the world day, activated over 20 million people from all walks of life.
