DOWA-(MaraviPost) – Another the fatal road accident occurred on Saturday in Dowa district that claimed the lives of four people. Police report that many others escaped with various degrees of injuries and have been referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred 6 P.M. at Sole Village near Chankhungu Trading Centre (TC), in the district.
Dowa Police station publicist Richard Kaponda, said three out of four male deceased have been identified as Pilirani Leonard, Lupiya Michael and Junior Chiunjika; all came from Bowe Trading Centre in Traditional Autholity (T.A.) Chakhaza in Dowa, while the other deceased is yet to be identified.
Kaponda told The Maravi Post that the two motor vehicles, by William Phiri and Lucious Yohane, were coming from opposite directions, Salima to Lilongwe and Lilongwe to Salima with passengers on board both vehicles.
The police publicist said upon arrival at Sole village along the said road near Chankhungu TC, the two drivers failed to pass one another properly as a result, collided in the middle of the road.
Kaponda added that following the impact three passengers from one of the vehicles, died on spot, while another male died at Chezi Health Centre while receiving treatment.
“Some passengers from both two motor vehicles escaped with serious injuries. They have been referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital for treatment. The four dead bodies have been taken to Dowa District Hospital Mortuary for postmortem and identification,” said Kaponda.
