Fisherman drowns in Lake Malawi, police do not suspect foul play

Malawi News Agency(MANA) is reporting on its website that a local fisherman who set out on a fishing excursion on Lake Malawi in Mangochi did not succeed on his mission since he did not return after drowning.

According to the report the fisherman identified as Anafi Asani, 38, who hailed from Nalikolo Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chowe in the district is said to have left home for Chikoko Fish Beach before meeting his fate.

 

Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Rodrick Maida told Malawi News Agency that Asani who earned a living out of fishing went to fish as usual on Friday, September 19 where he did not return.

“The deceased as usual went fishing through Chikoko beach. In the process, he went missing and was later discovered floating – dead at Mchangani Beach on Monday September 22 at about 10 O’clock in the morning,” Maida said.

The police publicist further said police have ruled out any possible foul play leading to the death of Asani
