FLOODS DISPLACE 137 HOUSEHOLDS IN NKHOTAKOTA

…DoDMA dispatches relief items for distribution to the affected people

Heavy rains that fell in the uplands of Bua River and some parts of Nkhotakota District from 3rd to 9th February 2019, have caused flooding in Mvula III Village, T/A Mphonde and have since displaced 137 households (approximately 753 people).

A report from Nkhotakota District Council indicates that the displaced, who have sought refuge at nearby Mvula Primary School and their relations’ houses, are in dire need of food, shelter and kitchen utensils.

The report further states that no injuries or deaths have been recorded following the flooding.

Meanwhile, the Department of Disaster Management Affairs has dispatched relief items to be distributed to the affected through the district council, later in the day.
