ATLANTA, (MaraviPost) –Malawi’s Vice President and United Transformation Movement (UTM) leader, Saulos Chilima has surprised many by selecting Michael Usi as his running mate.
This follows the failed alliance between Saulos Chilima and Joyce Banda. Last Friday the two announced they had formed a four-party coalition in a bid to unseat President Peter Mutharika in the May 21 vote, but the group soon broke up. Reportedly the reason for breakup was the refusal by Saulos Chilima to have Joyce Banda’s son as his running mate.
Malawi is set to host its Tripartite Elections in May 2019 according to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
Even though this might come as a surprise to many, The reporting indicates Usi has been working with the UTM and Saulos Chilima ever since it was founded as a breakaway faction of the ruling DPP mid last year.
DR Michael Usi has spent most of his lifetime understanding Malawian challenges and communicate solutions to the people hugely affected by these challenges in the simplest ways possible.
He has been actively providing interventions to issues of corruption, hunger, culture and human rights, HIV and AIDS and many others to the afflicted in a way that helped them craw out of their misery one step at a time.
While introducing Usi, Chilima said the UTM had picked ‘one of their own’.
