The power of radio

MCHINJI-(MaraviPost)-Broadcasters have been dared to announce and report on issues that promote peace and tolerance in the country.

 

The Remarks were made during 8th edition of World Radio day commemorations on 13 February at T/A Zulu in Mchinji

 

Speaking at the event MACRA’s Director General Godfrey Itaye,called on Broadcasters to work without violating the terms and conditions of their licence as we are going towards elections.

 

“We have professional Journalists who we believe that everything they report  will be truthful and for the right reasons,that will go along way in promoting peace here in Malawi”He said

 

Itaye said that MACRA believes in the media as a tool in promoting community tolerance and a community that is well informed.

 

Acting Deputy Executive Secretary for UNESCO David Mulera explained that the World Radio day was established to promote dialogue and end violence against people

 

“We would like to give credit to our media practitioners for coming and supporting this day.All the activities being carried out on this day are reaching out to the masses even in the remote areas”Said Mulera

World Radio day was established in 2011 as a way of celebrating radio as a medium and this year’s day has been celebrated under the theme:Dialogue,Tolerance and Peace.
