Malawi court in Mwanza jails a bartender to 30 months for robing the master

Mwanza-(MaraviPost). The Malawi court in the boarder and southern district on Wednesday, April 27 sentenced a bartender to a year and six months (30 months)for stealing his boss’ money worth MK84, 000.00.

Mwanza Police Station spokesperson Edward Kaunda confirmed The Maravi Post the sentencing of Steven Banda upon found guilty of the offence of theft by servant.

According to Publicist Kaunda, the court head that the convict was employed by Mr Kanyama as a bar tender at Baghdad Leisure Center within Mwanza Township such that on February 15, 2016 after closing the leisure center, Banda stole K84,000.00 which was part of the sales of that day and he was on run.

“The bar owner Kanyama waited for two days for steven to return with the money but he didn’t  which eventually he reported the matter to Mwanza police on February 18, consequently a man hunt was launched and Banda was arrested on April 25 in Mangochi.

“On February 27, the convict pleaded guilty to charge of theft by servant before Mwanza First Grade Magistrate Court. Eventually, His worship Ran Well Mangazi jailed Banda to 30 months saying that most bartenders in the country tend to rob from their employers hence no need for lenient jail term to deter that might commit the same offense”, says Kaunda

Steven Banda hails from Mkalo village,  Tradition Authority (T.A)Sitola in the eastern district of  Machinga.
