MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-Ministry of Health and Population has launched the cervical cancer (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccine in the country.
The launch took place at St. Charles Lwanga Primary School Ground on January 10, 2019 in Mangochi. This is contrary to some media reports that said the programme had not yet started.
Government through the Ministry of Health has introduced the vaccine as a means of providing protection to girls against cervical cancer in lie with the recommendation by World Health Organisation.
Secretary for Ministry of Health and Population Dr. Dan Namarika said in a statement that the vaccine is being given to nine year old girls in two doses.
“The first dose will be given on first contact and the second one after six months,” said Namarika in the statement.
The vaccine is provided at all health centres, both public and CHAM and some private health centres, all
under five clinics and all government and private schools
