MZUZU--Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader John Tembo has disclosed that the party’s much awaited convention will be held on 27-29 April this year.
Tembo made the announcement at a rally held in the area of Traditional Authority Chadza on Sunday.
He said he made the announcement because some party officials have been going around coaxing party followers to call for an early convention and he called on supporters to work together.
MCP, which the country's oldest party, has been rocked with leadership wrangles as some have demanded that Tembo steps down and allow others to lead the party.
Last year some party officials reportedly planned to take legal action against Tembo to prevent him from taking part in the convention which was initially slated for the end of last year.
However, in December last year John Tembo was reported to have said he was ready to quit active politics and pave way for new blood.
