MZUZU--The Evangelical Church of Malawi has vowed to mobilize people to hold demonstrations to persuade the Speaker of the national assembly to implement Section 65 which stops Members of Parliament (MPs) from crossing the floor.
According to the church's General Secretary Otherwise Matupe, the church is ready to go to the constitutional court to challenge any injunction that would bar Speaker Henry Chimunthu Banda from implementing the section.
If implemented, the move would affect several MPs who defected to Joyce Banda's People's Party (PP) from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) following the death of Pres Bingu wa Mutharika last April.
When she assumed power, PP didn't have own elected MPs. Banda assembled a cabinet from all parties represented in parliament.
