BLANTYRE—Hundreds of disgruntled primary school pupils from Chimwakhunda and Zingwangwa on Wednesday disrupted classes at Pres Joyce Banda's private schools, saying all pupils should suffer as teachers in the country are on strike.
The pupils wanted to find out from the schools authorities why their friends were learning at a time all students in the country aren't learning due to the strike.
Riot police were called in to restore order as the pupils were throwing stones at the premises.
Police spokesperson Nicolas Gondwa they had identified five names which they will use to probe the matter.
Malawi civil servants went on a strike last week and the protests reached a climax in Lilongwe as police uses teargass to disperse the break up the peaceful protests.
Public workers in the country are demanding a pay raise arguing that life is becoming increasingly unbearable due to the devaluation and floatation of the kwacha championed by the Banda administration.
Until their demands are met, the workers say they will not return to work.
