MZUZU--A Malawian businessman has taken former finance minister Symon Vuwa Kaunda to court for allegedly failing to settle a debt.
MaraPost sources indicate that Kaunda, who served while the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was in power (2004-2012) owes businessman, Machipisa Munthali, K1, 950 000 after managing to pay only K3 million out of the K4, 950 000 he was supposed to pay for three houses.
But in a defence statement filed at Mzuzu First Grade Magistrate court, Kaunda, a die-hard DPP supporter, denies owing Munthali any money.
"The defendant states there is sale agreement for the alleged sale transaction to be shown at trial indicating that the defendant paid the total purchase price of the three houses.
"Save as herein before expressly admitted, the defendant denies every allegation contained in the plaintiff’s statement of claim as if the same were set out and traversed seriatim and prays that the plaintiff’s claim be dismissed with costs," reads Kaunda’s defence statement.
