Mighty Wanderers cemented their dream to finish in top four of Malawi TNM super league by beating the relegated side Escom United 3-0 on Sunday at Kamuzu stadium in Blantyre.
Despite already being relegated from the country’s elite league, Escom United looked geared and determined for a win. But Wanderers’ Gerald Phiri and Victor Mpinganjira goals confirmed that Escom United indeed deserves the country’s Peter Mutharika Southern Region League.
In an interview with Zodiak radio after the game coach for Wanderers Albert Mpinganjira said his charges played well and every player was dedicated.
“I am happy because the players showed commitment in the pitch and they did what matters in football –scoring. Of course we wanted we would score more goals but three goals are also enough”, said Mpinganjira. Kondwani Gawani, coach for relegated Escom United said his players tried but lucky was not on their side.
“We tried but lucky was not our side. Though we are already relegated we wanted a win so that we could add some points”, he said. Asked on their plans in Southern Region League, Gawani said they will work hard to reclaim their place in TNM Super league.
