BLANTYRE—The Malawi national team, the Flames, have moved from position 114 to 113 on the world Fifa rankings.
According to latest rankings released Thursday, the Flames have also moved from position 32 to 31 on the African rankings while the women’s national football team has dropped two places down to position 127 on the world rankings.
Some football experts says the Flames, who are faced with daunting tasks against Nigeria, Namibia and Kenya in the 2014 Fifa world cup, must perform better and win the games to rise further on the rankings.
Spain remains the highest ranked national team in the world followed by Germany and Argentina. Newly crowned African champions, Nigeria are position 30 on the world rankings and fourth on the African rankings.
