Malawi TNM super league: Ndawa to field youthful side against Wanderers

Silver StrikersLILONGWE--Silver Strikers coach Franco Ndawa has declared he will field a youthful side in his last league assignment against Mighty Wanderers, having secured the vital three points the bankers needed to neutralize their closest pursuers Big Bullets.

The central bankers on Sunday, February 17, 2013 defeated Kamuzu Barracks through a Frank Banda 36th minute lone strike to move three points ahead of Bullets, who now have a mammoth task of beating Red Lions by a 10-goal margin in their last game while hoping that Wanderers reduce the bankers goal difference by beating them on the final day.

“I said before that we are going to fight our own battle and would not want any team to help us winning the title. With today’s victory, we now just need a point to secure the title without thinking of what Bullets will do in their last game. I am going to rest most of the key players and use a youthful squad in the game against Wanderers,” said Ndawa after Sunday’s victory.

However, it will be suicidal for the bankers to completely write off the ‘people’s team’ considering Bullets would not have to score 10 goals if Wanderers massacre the bankers on the final day. A 5-0 victory by the Nomads over the bankers would leave Bullets with a lesser burden of hitting six past the soldiers from the old capital.

Bullets’ coach Eddie Ng’onamo is on record as having declared that his side would snatch the title from under the bankers’ nose but with the current statistics, it will be a bit unrealistic for the Bullets’ camp to continue dreaming about the title.

With the title race almost concluded and the relegation talk over, focus must now move on the battle for the fourth-place between Wanderers and Red Lions.

The Lions from Zomba have dislodged the Nomads from the fourth position after triumphing 2-1 at Blue Eagles on Sunday, February 17, 2013 but Wanderers can reclaim the position with a win or draw over Mafco at Chitowe Stadium on February 23, 2012 before both sides play their last games on February 24, 2012.

Only the top four finishers in the league receive monetary rewards from sponsors TNM.
