Police in Blantyre have arrested two people suspected to have stolen a riffle belonging to a Catholic Priest at Nantipwiri Patsoral Centre in Limbe township.
Deputy Spokesperson of Limbe police, Patrick Mussa, confirmed the development and identified the two as Hassan Mukota 28 year old and Steven Chibwe  aged 27.
Mussa said the duo were employed by the centre as house boy and Cook respectively, and they took this as an opportunity to steal the riffle.
According to Mussa Limbe Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel were tipped that the suspects were selling a 2.2 riffle and this prompted police to start investigating the matter which led to the arrest of the two.
“After receiving a complaint from the priest we started investigating the matter and on July 16, 2018, one suspect was apprehended at Misesa roadblock and recovery of the fire arm with eleven ammunition was made the other one was arrested same day at his work place, both admitted to have stolen the riffle,” Mussa said.
The deputy limbe police spokesperson said the suspects have since been charged with ‘theft’ which contravenes Section 278 of the penal code and they will appear before court soon.
Hassan Mukota  from Kalimbuka village , Traditional Authority (T.A) Chimaliro in Thyolo district, while Steven Chibwe comes from Kudzikuzi village, TA Kabudula in Lilongwe.
