
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Ministry of Trade and industry has acknowledged that the 2013 to 2018 National Exports Strategy did not go well in some areas since they did not deliver the desired results.
This has Been revealed during the National Consultation Workshop on National Export Strategy of Malawi that was held at Bingu international Convention Center (BICC) in Lilongwe.
Secretary for Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ken Ndala, said the aim of the workshop is to do a review of the last national Export strategy and for stakeholders to bring in ideas that will help in designing the next National Exports Strategy.
He said the last National Exports strategy had alot of Challenges because among others, they were over ambitious and depended much on donors but despite that there were some things that went well like the control of goods act.
He said they expect the next National Exports Strategy to be as inclusive as possible and will make sure that some of the challenges are tackled.
Ndala said the next strategy will be finalized next year.
Commenting, trade Advisor at the Trade, Oceans and Natural Resources Directorate, Yinka Bandele, said Malawi should learn from what went wrong in the last National Exports Strategy and correct the mistakes made to achieve the next one.
