2022/2023 Central region pool league cues off Oct 1

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Central Region Pool (CRPL) Committee have announced that the 2022/2023 season will cue off on October 1, 2022.

This years’ league will be co- sponsored by Members Club Management of Lumbadzi and PJ Bites Restaurant to the tune of MK5 million.

The announcement about the cue off of the league was made during the launch of the 2022/2023 season which took place at PJ Bites Restaurant in the capital, Lilongwe on Saturday.

The occasion was presided over by the vice President of Malawi Pool Association (MAPA), Hastings Mpesi.

Speaking after the launch, Mpesi described the sponsorship as landmark saying it will benefit many pool players not only in the Central Region but Malawi as a whole.

He therefore hailed Members Club Management and PJ Bites Restaurant for the timely Sponsorship to the sport,

“Let me appeal to all pool fraternity to patronise PJ Bites Restaurant and Members Club Management so that the deal becomes a win win,if they patronise these places,they will be paying back”,

“The Central Region League is going to play a great role in selecting national team players as it is the backbone of pool leagues in Malawi. We want to participate in all national tournaments in 2023.As MAPA we are progressing well as you can see all regions are cueing off,” said Mpesi.

In his remarks chairperson for CRPL, Kennedy Kalilombe hailed the sponsors and vowed to promote the discipline amongst the participating clubs to safeguard the sponsorship.

He added the coming in of the sponsorship demonstrates the good leadership and trust from the sponsors.

“I am proud we have launched the league,what is remaining now is for the clubs to start battling for supremacy”, Kalilombe said.

Peter Ng’ambi, Manager for Member Club Management, said the decision to sponsor pool came up due to the love of the sport. He said pool increased the turn up of the people at his business premises.

The winner of this year’s tournament will take home money amounting to MK1.3 million and a trophy while runners up will get MK1 million with third and fourth placed taking MK700,000 and MK500,000 respectively.

Teams from positions five to ten will take home MK50,000 each as consolation prizes.

About 20 teams have registered for forthcoming season.
