2023 COSAFA Cup: Malawi’s Flames Classic display against Seychelles lauded

Malawi in Red against Seychelles

Malawi 2-0 Seychelles

PRETORIA-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi National Football team, Flames on Sunday evening, July 9, 2023, displayed classic football in COSAFA Group B victory after thrashing up Seychelles 2-0.

The Flames are just close to the tournament’ Semifinals.

Goals from Christopher Kumwembe and Lanjesi Nkhoma were enough for the Patrick Mabedi boys to send a strong warning to Comoros.

With Sunday’s victory, The Flames are on top of Group B with six points only a point is needed to go into another stage.

The team played well and dominated coupled with good passing, speed, and composure Malawi would have won with more goals.

The win comes a few days after The Flames beat the defeating Champions Zambia one nil in their opening game.

Malawi therefore needs a point in Tuesday’s last Group B match against Comoros at Moses Mabhinda Stadium and if that happens then a semi-final against Group C winners will beckon.

In a post-interview, Flames interim Coach Mabedi bemoaned the lack of utilizing the chances by his boys.

But Mabedi was quick to praise his boys for the nice performance displayed on Sunday evening.

“We could have won with four goals or more, in the first half we did not do better but I am happy that the boys used what I told them during the halftime,” said Mabedi.

The Flames are on top of Group B with six points seconded by Comoros who have three points the same with Zambia only being separated by goal difference while Seychelles anchors the table without a point with two games played.
