LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-There was a crucial and entertaining battle between Civil Servants and Policewomen in the 2024 Goshen-FAM Women’s league in the central region as Civo snatched a late victory over Blue Eagles ladies at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
The match was highly contested and the hype was just too high to the satisfaction of the fans who came to watch the battle.
Civo Women team started it off in the 32th minute through a goal from Maureen Nyasulu who capitalized on opponent’s poor defending.
However, Civo celebration short-lived as Blue Eagles equalized through Temwa Kaonga in the 37th minute into the first half through the penalty.
The two sides continued attacking each other for other goals but their efforts yielded nothing until the last whistle for the recess.
Second stanza started also with the rhythm of the game higher, the host pressed through Jessie Joseph, Benadetta Nyenga, Maureen Nyasulu and Monalia Davie but their efforts were for several times dealt with by the Blue Eagles ladies shot-stopper Neema Safiyana who rised for the occasion in that morning.
Blue Eagles on the other hand launched numerous attacks and created chances through Jestina Bwanausi, Maggie Msiska, Jenin Mwale, Captain Temwa Kaonga and Memory Banda but lacked killer punch to get the desired goals.
As the time was fast ticking for the match to close, Civo again capitalized on Eagle’s poor defending to score and snatch a late winner at 90 plus 4 minutes through Captain Jessie Joseph.
Soon after that goal the centre referee Charity Zenus blew the whistle to end the battle and the Policewomen were left down on the ground with the pain as if they were on rolling exercise at the Police training School.
The victory for Civil Women team means they continue leading the table in the central region with 16 points from 6 games. They have managed to win 5 and drawn 1, they are seconded by MDF Lioness with 13 points from 5 games.
Their head coach Collins Pofera was excited with the result.
“First of all let me congratulate the girls for executing well our plans, they gave it all from first to the last whistle.
