NOVA SCOTIA-(MaraviPost)-At least 10 people have been killed in rampage shooting across the northern part of the province of Nova Scotia on Sunday 19th April, 2020.

President of National Police Federation union, Brian Sauvé confirmed the tragedy.

A report by the AP revealed that the incident started in the small, rural town of Portapique when the suspect who was identified as Gabriel Wortman, driving a police vehicle while wearing a police uniform started shooting randomly at several buildings.

He was later found by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in a gas station in Enfield, Nova Scotia, northwest of downtown Halifax and taken into custody before police announced about his demise just hours after his arrest.

Sauvé disclosed that one officer who was identified as Const. Heidi Stevenson, a mother of two and a 23-year-old veteran of the force was among the victims of the tragedy and another officer was seriously injured while in pursuit of the suspect.

Commenting on the matter, the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has expressed his heartfelt condolence to all the families effected.

Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil has described the incident as one of the most senseless acts of violence in the province’s history.

Police have not yet provided a motive for the attack and meanwhile, investigations have been launched to establish the reason behind the shootings.
