BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Prison Service (MPS) has disclosed that 62 inmates are currently sitting for 2025 Primary School Leaving Certificate Examinations (PSLCE) in seven centers across the country.
Initially, 84 inmates were expected to take the exams, but the number dropped after some were released upon completing their sentences.
According to MPS Public Relations Officer Steve Charles Meke, this initiative marks a significant step in the transformation of the prison service from a punitive institution to a correctional service.
Meke highlighted that education programs like this help inmates gain confidence, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking abilities, ultimately aiding their successful reintegration into society.
The seven examination centers include Maula Prison, Mzuzu Prison, Mzimba, Kachere Women’s Prison, Blantyre Prison, Bvumbwe, and Zomba (Mountain View).
