MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-One of the country’s civil society organisation Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) has been shocked with the announcement made President President Peter Mutharika on Thursday that three cases of Covid 19 were confirmed in the country.

According to a press statement CDEDI issued on Friday 3 April, 2020, the news that three Malawians have tested positive for the global pandemic is not only shocking but it also sends the rest of the country into panicking mood.

“Mutharika in his own words as monitored through MBC, said Malawi has at the time of broadcast registered three (3) confirmed cases. The President asked us no t to panic.

“However, CDEDI believes that the announcement the President made has sent Malawians into panicking mood,” reads the statement partly.

The statement further says the announcement by the President has invited more questions than answers as to why the authority in the country allowed the woman to go into self quarantine when it was crystal clear that she was Covid 19 positive.

CDEDI also wonders why the government of India allowed the woman to leave that country when everyone else there was not allowed to either enter or leave the same.

President Mutharika on Thursday announced through the State Television, MBC TV, that Malawi has registered its first cases of Covid 19.

The affected including Indian-Malawian woman who recently traveled back from India, her relation and their maid.

However, the names of these three still remain anonymous.
