LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Tragic! Six members of the same family have died in a road accident after a vehicle they were traveling in was involved in a head-on collision at Mbuna Area, along the Dedza-Lilongwe in M1 Road.
The accident occurred on Monday at around 9:30 pm, September 4, 2023
Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu has identified the six deceased as Kefasi Pachi, 47, (driver), mother Gertrude Pachi, 65, Shukrani Pachi, 25, Estina Pachi, 22, Ayilepile Pachi, 17, and Tony Kasamiro, 4.
Chigalu disclosed that the late Pachi was driving a Honda Freed Hatch-Back, registration number BZ 10972, from the direction of Diamphwi, heading to Kamphata with five passengers on board.
“Upon arrival at the said area, he collided head-on with a G4S Security Company motor vehicle, Hino Lorry, registration number BT 10860, driven by Dennis Chirambo, 43.
“Following the impact, the Honda Freed driver and all his passengers, three females, and two males including a young boy, sustained severe head injuries,” Chigalu says.
The police publicist added the six were pronounced dead upon arrival at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH).
The family hailed from Ngwaya Village, Traditional Authority Liwonde in Machinga District.
However, Chigalu said that the G4S vehicle driver escaped with minor injuries.
The family was returning to Chinsapo in Lilongwe from Machinga where they had gone to attend a chieftaincy installation ceremony.
