LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Vice President and the runningmate for Tonse alliance,Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima on Sunday, May 17, 2020 told Malawians that the forming of Tonse alliance was to make sure that Malawi is one nation from Chitipa to Nsanje and Nkhota-kota to Mchinji regardless of any affiliation.
Dr Chilima observed that Malawi leadership is not designed for two families; Mutharika and Muluzi but for all.
The VP was speaking at Likuni Boys ground in the capital Lilongwe where the Tonse alliance held a campaign rally ahead of fresh election scheduled for July 2 this year.
“Malawi is not only designed to be ruled by two families; Mutharika and Muluzi whose credibility is questioned; corruption, nepotism, tribalism.
“This is the reason Tonse Alliance came into being to provide insightful leadership for all Malawians for better,” assures Chilima.
He therefore lauded the two passed runningmates Sidik Mia and Michael Usi for MCP and UTM respectively for humbling themselves in the process of forming Tonse alliance.
The Tonse alliance runningmate therefore made several promises on behalf of the alliance including good roads, cheap farm inputs, employment, loans, bridges, safe water, improved working conditions including timely salaries, removing taxes on water and electricity connections, reducing school fees in all learning institutions, taking care of the elderly and provision of good leadership using the Chakwera SUPER HI 5 saying the Chakwera SUPER HI 5 has the binding foundation in building new Malawi.
The UTM president further pointed out that Malawi is sick of poor leadership which can serve the citizens well.
He then assured the large crowd that gathered at Likuni ground that by midnight of July 2, Malawi will have its sixth president in the name of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera that will mark the beginning of new Malawi which will be better for everyone.
Before Dr. Chilima made his speech, several other alliance leaders spoke including the first vice president for MCP Sidik Mia.
Mia told mega rally that lauded Chilima for being humble by accepting the alliance’s runningmate to serve the wish of a common citizen.
The MCP VP disputed social media reports that he joined Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)
“DPP as it has nothing to offer him for he is desperate to see change in Malawi not for personal gains and added that he is not even shaken but to remain royal and supportive to the MCP leadership and Tonse alliance.
“Those propagating that Chakwera and Chilima will oppress the Muslims are just wasting their time as the two leaders are not of such kind,” says Mia
This was the third campaign rally for Tonse alliance presidency following Mzuzu and Kasungu rallies respectively.
