BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-In a move seen as a testament to President Peter Mutharika’s commitment to merit-based appointments, Henry Mathanga has been appointed Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) responsible for Economic Affairs. This appointment has been welcomed by the Concerned Citizens of Malawi, People Power Movement CCM-PPM, who praise the President for choosing individuals with proven track records.

Mathanga’s appointment is particularly notable as he is returning to a role he previously held in 2019. His experience and qualifications make him an ideal candidate for the position, and his appointment is expected to contribute to Malawi’s economic stability and growth.

The appointment comes after a High Court ruling in Mathanga’s favor, which emphasized fair trial rights and prosecutorial power limits. The Court found insufficient evidence for renewed charges, refusing further prosecution, and Mathanga has not been proven guilty of any wrongdoing.

In a statement, Comrade Edward Kambanje, on behalf of The Concerned Citizens of Malawi, expressed gratitude to President Mutharika for the appointment. “We’ve observed that President Mutharika makes appointments based on merit, choosing individuals with proven track records,” Kambanje said.

The statement also urged the public and authorities to support Mathanga’s appointment, saying it was a prime example of merit-based selection. “Despite being targeted by some, his experience and qualifications make him ideal for the role,” the statement read.

Mathanga’s appointment has sparked hope for Malawi’s economy, with many expecting him to make a significant impact as Deputy Governor of the RBM. His experience and expertise are seen as crucial in strengthening the country’s economic landscape.

The appointment also highlights the importance of upholding the principles of fairness and justice in all aspects of governance. Mathanga is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and his appointment shouldn’t be judged on unproven allegations.

As Malawians look forward to the positive changes that Mathanga’s appointment will bring, the focus shifts to ensuring that he is given the support he needs to excel in his new role. With his proven track record, Mathanga is well-positioned to make a difference in Malawi’s economic future.
