CHIKWAWA-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Chikwawa Nkombezi Constituency Abida Sidik Mia has asked President Peter Mutharika leadership to stop misusing funds allocated in agriculture sector and give farmers the deserved benefits of their hard work.

Speaking in parliament on Thursday, June 11,2020, Chikwawa Nkombezi Parliamentarian Abida revealed that farmers in her Constituency have been exploited despite their hard work in the previous growing season.

“People in my Constituency worked so hard to produced cotton and instead of buying this cotton from them, you’re getting their produce on credit and at MK100 instead of MK300. Where did you put the MK1 billion funds allocated in this sector?,” she said.

According to Mia, despite the drought that frustrated many farmers in the lower shire, those that managed to produce cotton in the area are now suffering as a result of government’s failure to purchase the cotton from them.

The parliamentarian disclosed that in her Constituency, about two to three people are dying each passing day due to hunger, hence the need to act fast to rescue them.

The concern comes after Admarc is failing to buy crops including cotton, maize due to insufficient of funds.
