LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Member of Parliament (MP) for Chikwawa Mkombedzi Constituency Abida Mia has applauded the Tonse Alliance leadership for empowering women by putting them in leading roles.
In her speech during the fundraising high tea event she hosted for Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Central Region Women League, Mia asked all members of the Tonse alliance to play a role in the forthcoming fresh Presidential Election to ensure proper management of the election results.
The wife to MCP Vice president Sidik Mia commended MCP president Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and UTM president Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima for the courageous fight to free the nation from the crooked hands of those committed to tear down the nation.
“Tonse Alliance is a very inclusive political platform since we have women taking a leading role like honorable Patricia Kaliati who is the Secretary General of the magnificent UTM and Right Honorable Catherine Gotani Hara who is the Deputy Secretary General of the mighty MCP and also the Speaker of the national.

“For your own information Dr. Chakwera is a champion of gender equity and fair distribution of positions of influence between men and women folk,” lauds Abida.
She also saluted members of the alliance for embracing the servant leadership norms promoted by the leaders of the Alliance and has urged them to remain hopeful while waiting for the victory in the forthcoming fresh Presidential Election.
“This is from the time we were in court up to the present day. We are all part and parcel of this political glory and victory, let us all share the shine with our political leaders,” says Chikwawa Mkombedzi Constituency lawmaker.
The high level tea party and braii was also attended by Speaker of the national assembly Catherine Gotani Hara, Mama Tamanda C Kadzamira, as well as members of parliament.
Members of women’s league from all political parties, well wishers and some members were in attendance too.
The fundraising event was organised in a quest to raise funds for born free and women’s league of all political parties in the Tonse Alliance as count down to polling day draws closer.
The Women groups will embark on door to door campaign using the funds raised during the event.
The event was expected to raise MK10 million.
Under the banner Tonse, Chakwera along side Chilima will face Peter Mutharika with Atupele Muluzi of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in June 23, 2020 polls.
