ACB in Malawi question 1st and 2nd Parliamentary deputy Speakers on suspicion of falsifying housing allowance claims

In a press statement  made available to the Maravi Post by Egrita M. Ndala Senior Public Relations Officer at the ACB, the body is investigating the two parliamentarians on the suspicion that they embellished on their housing allowance claims.

 

According to the press release, on 18th February, 2016 the Anti-Corruption Bureau summoned the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Honourable Dr. Clement Chiwaya to its offices in Lilongwe where he was interviewed on these matters.

 

 

On 19th February, 2016, the Bureau interviewed the First Deputy Speaker Honourable Esther Mcheka Chilenje in relation to the ongoing investigation in relation to the issue of housing allowances as well.

 

This was done to give the Second and First Deputy Speakers respectively a chance to explain their side of the story in relation to the investigation.

 

Both Dr Clement Chiwaya and Honourable Esther Mcheka Chilenje have challenged the accusations levelled against them.
