AGADIR-(MaraviPost)-Nigeria and Egypt have both secured their places in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 following impressive victories in their respective quarter final encounters.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria produced a disciplined and confident performance to defeat Algeria 2–0 in a match that underlined their growing authority in the tournament.
Victor Osimhen was the star of the show for Nigeria, opening the scoring and setting the tone for a dominant display against a usually resilient Algerian side.
Osimhen’s goal settled early nerves for the Super Eagles and allowed them to take control of the tempo, frustrating Algeria with well organized defending and quick transitions.
Nigeria doubled their advantage through Akor Adams, whose composed finish put the result beyond doubt and capped a strong attacking performance.
Algeria tried to respond but struggled to break down Nigeria’s backline with the Super Eagles limiting their opponents to few clear cut chances.
At the final whistle, Nigeria celebrated a deserved 2–0 victory, confirming their return to the AFCON semi-final stage.
Osimhen’s influence did not go unnoticed, as the Napoli striker was named Man of the Match for his goal and overall impact.
Later in the day, Egypt also sealed their semi final ticket after a thrilling 3–2 win over Côte d’Ivoire in a tightly contested quarter final clash.
The Pharaohs took the lead through Omar Marmoush, who struck with confidence to give Egypt an early advantage.
Rami Rabia extended Egypt’s lead, putting them in control and forcing Côte d’Ivoire to chase the game.
However, the Elephants were handed a lifeline just before halftime when an own goal by Ahmed Fatouh reduced the deficit and shifted the momentum.
In the second half, Egypt captain Mohamed Salah restored calm by scoring Egypt’s third goal, demonstrating his leadership on the big stage.
Côte d’Ivoire refused to surrender and pulled another goal back through Guela Doue, setting up a tense finish.
Despite late pressure from the Elephants, Egypt held firm to secure a 3–2 victory and progress to the last four.
The result highlighted Egypt’s experience in knockout football and their ability to manage difficult moments in high pressure matches.
This means Nigeria will face Morocco while Senegal is battling out again Egypt next week Wednesday.
