AFORD’s Chihana calls for unity among political parties ahead of elections

Enoch Chihana is currently advancing federation system of government

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) President Enock Chihana has emphasized the need for political parties to unite in order to win the September 16 General Election.

Speaking during a meeting with traditional and religious leaders in Bangwe Township, Blantyre, Chihana highlighted that Malawi is facing a serious crisis in terms of leadership and economy.

“The country is in serious crisis in terms of leadership and economy, and everyone knows who has destroyed this country. Therefore, to amend the current problems, there is a need for collaboration,” Chihana stated.

He revealed that his party is currently engaged in talks with various parties to explore possible electoral alliances.

Chihana’s call for unity comes as AFORD continues to negotiate with several opposition parties, including the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), United Transformation Movement (UTM), United Democratic Front (UDF), and People’s Party (PP).

The discussions are reportedly at an advanced stage, with AFORD aiming to announce its decision on potential alliances soon.

In recent months, Chihana has been vocal about AFORD’s desire to form alliances that prioritize the welfare of Malawians.

He has expressed reservations about joining forces with parties that may not share AFORD’s values and ideologies.

Notably, Chihana has ruled out forming an alliance with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), citing past experiences.

The AFORD leader’s comments have sparked interest in the potential configuration of electoral alliances ahead of the September polls.

As the country heads towards the elections, Chihana’s call for unity among political parties underscores the complexities of Malawi’s political landscape.

Group Village Head Mwamadi commended Chihana for visiting his area, reflecting the ongoing engagement between AFORD and local leaders.
