BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Malawi President Arthur Peter Mutharika will on Tuesday June 21, officially open the first ever Malawi-China Investment Forum at Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe.
According to State House press release made available to Maravi Post on Sunday, the President is expected to arrive at the venue half past nine (9:30) in the morning and government officials, invited dignitaries and all investors are requested to be seated by 9:00am.
The press release indicates that the forum will be held under the theme “Fostering Production Cooperation between the Chinese Province of Anhui and Malawi.”
China’s presence in Malawi has been growing steadily since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 2007 and signed a trade agreement and Malawi abandoned its links to Taiwan after 41 years.
Visiting the southern country, it is difficult to miss the imposing buildings like the country’s first five-star hotel in the capital city, a state-of-the-art conference centre and 14 opulent presidential suites. The Chinese also built Malawi University of Malawi (MUST) just to mention a few.
