Ayuba tipped to win Chanco student union presidency, denies MCP links

News coming from Chancellor College, a constituent college of the University of Malawi at this hour shows that students have resolved to vote for Sylvester Ayuba James for the hot seat of the Presidency when they go to the polls this morning,Thursday.

Our correspondent on the ground reports that Ayuba got the students’ approval when he unpacked his manifesto to the students yesterday night much to the ululation and hand-clapping of the not-so-easily controlled jam packed Great Hall.

In random interviews with the students, Ayuba emerges as the favorite candidate with 82% chance of winning the Presidency. Majority of those interviewed attributed his possible win to his vision adding that he is a tried and tested fighter.

“It is a defining moment for us as we are facing serious challenges requiring a focused and visionary leader, a tried and proven fighter to bring back the glory of Chancellor College,” a third year bachelor of education science student said.

“Issues of tuition fees remain a concern of almost every needy student and its only Ayuba who can make us feel as students of the mighty Chancellor College once more,” said one of the students on campus who simply identified herself as Martha.

On reports going viral on the social media that Ayuba is being sponsored by opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP), the hot presidential candidate has trashed such reports as “cheap propaganda” from his detractors stressing that he has no links with any political party.

When asked for a comment as to whether Ayuba is an MCP sell-out, a fourth year political science student on campus expressed strong doubts as to the truth of such reports and hastened to add that such reports may stem from Ayuba’s bashing of the current regime in a contribution he made in the Education Inequality debate at Chanco’s Great Hall organized by OXFAM recently which was broadcasted live on both Zodiak radio and TV.

In his contribution Ayuba is said to have faulted government on practicing appeasement politics in the disbursement of the student loans noting that loans were granted to sons and daughters of top government officials leaving out the bright needy students whom the loans scheme is intended to benefit.

Sylvester Ayuba James is a third year Law student at the college.
