BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has today Saturday started dispatching ballot papers from Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) to district councils escorted by armed Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers, raising hope that polling will take place on Tuesday.

Speaking to Media, Zomba District Commissioner Smart Gwedemula said the council has received the ballots and have already been dispatched to all constituencies except Chisi Island.

Over 300 000 people are expected to cast their vote in the fresh presidential election on Tuesday.

Other districts which have their ballot papers supplied are Chikwawa, Nsanje, Neno, Salima and Mwanza in the Southern Region, while all Northern Region districts except Likoma Island have also received them.

The ballot papers will be airlifted to the island by tomorrow, according to Malawi Eletoral Commission.

The dispatch exercise is expected to continue overnight, a development that would see more districts councils receiving ballot papers by Sunday morning.

At district level, the distribution of ballot papers will continue to polling centres also with the aid of the MDF helicopters.

Malawians will vote for president of the country in a fresh election after the High Court sitting as Constitutional Court nullified the May 2019 presidential election due to massive irregularities.

The ConCourt verdict was later upheld and upgraded by the Supreme Court of Appeal.
