LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles football clubs will on Saturday 18th November 2023 battle it out in the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s 25th year of existence commemoration at Silver Stadium where MK2 million is at stake.
Speaking at the press briefing, Co-Chair, of the Joint Working Committee for ACB and FAM Susan Mtuwa said the match is part of the series of activities the Anti-Corruption Bureau has been partaking in since 1st October in commemoration of the 25 years of existence.
“This year marks 25 years since ACB was established, so for us is an exciting year looking back at what the body has achieved and also gives us a point of reflection to our next destination. So, as part of celebrations we have been having a series of activities from 1st October and the match is part of those coming along the series of activities which we have planned”,
“So you might be asking what is it that we are doing on the 18th of November this Saturday, we are hosting a match between Blue Eagles FC and Silver Strikers FC.
“We have an MoU with FAM and one of the issues we are looking at is using football as a platform to promote messages of Anti-Corruption, apart from that, we would also want to involve everyone in the celebrations hence the football match as it is loved by many”, Mtuwa said.
On a particular day, the activities are anticipated to start at 09:00 hours with a parade of a trophy from ACB offices in Lilongwe’s city center and move to Kawale, Mchesi and then Mtandire.
The parade will also act as an awareness of the match whilst sending messages about Anti-Corruption.
Apart from the Silver Jubilee match, the seasoned and celebrated artist in Malawi who is expected to be unveiled on Friday will perform at the event with Flames Legends and Honorable Members as a curtain raiser match to spice the event.
MASM and Paramount Academy have sponsored the prize money in which the winner will take home K2 million and the loser will take home K1 million. The player of the match will get K400,000.
Blue Eagles FC assistant coach Christopher Sibale hailed ACB for incorporating his side during the memorable event saying this is aligning with Malawi Police Service to disseminate awareness.
He has since expressed the significance of using the strongest squad during the match saying it will help them have an assessment ahead of their cup games in the Airtel Top 8 against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC and Castel Challenge Cup including the last TNM Superleague encounter against MAFCO.
“This game will help us taking into consideration that we have a game to wrap up the season including cup games.
“This is a derby hence has more aspects including pride to protect supremacy hence we will take it seriously”, said Sibale.
Silver Strikers Reserve FC head coach McDonald Yobe who spoke on behalf of the Bankers promised to use first-team players to win the match on the day.
“We registered over 25 players hence as Silver we promise to use the strongest squad to entertain the fans who will come into the Silver Stadium for the first time this year”, said Yobe.
Minister of Youth and Sports Uchizi Mkandawire will preside over the event at Silver Stadium.
