LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Secretary for Basic Education in the Ministry of Education Dr. Rachael Chimbwete Phiri is appealing for more partners in the Team Girl Malaw Project.
Dr Phiri therefore lauded Link Community Development for its outstanding achievements in the project implementation
She made the remarks during the celebratory ceremony for the closure of the project, which has been implemented for five years in Dedza, Mchinji, and Lilongwe districts, among other areas.
Chimbwete indicated that the project enrolled 6,300 learners who transitioned to various primary schools, and vocational training centers to continue with their education as well as acquire entrepreneurship skills.
She further said that the project managed to support governments’ renewed focus on foundational literacy and numeracy, citing that over the years learners have achieved 77 percent improvement in numeracy and a further 77 percent improvement in literacy.
Link Community Development Country Director Harold Kuombola emphasized that Link Malawi is still committed to supporting the government in improving education standards in the country.
Kuombola called for support from various institutions and stakeholders to ensure the project is sustained.
The project was being implemented through a consortium of partners comprising Link Malawi, Theatre for Change, Supreme Sanitary Pads, CGA technologies, and CUMO.
The project closure celebratory held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, in the capital Lilongwe was under the theme, “Skills for Life: Supporting out-of-school youth with fundamental learning and skills for wealthy and self-reliant Malawi”.
