Beach Eagles eye fourth straight beach soccer title

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The countdown to Malawi’s biggest beach soccer spectacle has begun after the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) conducted draws for the 2025 National Beach Soccer Championship in Blantyre on Tuesday.

The draw ceremony took place at Mpira Village in Chiwembe, where participating teams discovered their opponents ahead of the highly anticipated tournament set for this coming weekend in Nkhotakota.

Three-time defending champions Beach Eagles have been placed in a tricky Group A alongside Vinthenga of Nkhotakota and Peninsula from Karonga .

Beach Eagles will enter the championship carrying the confidence of champions but they are expected to face stiff resistance from their determined rivals who are eager to end the club’s dominance in the competition.

Host district representatives Vinthenga are expected to enjoy massive home support during the tournament at Arnold Resort, a factor that could boost their chances of progressing to the next stage.

Peninsula from the northern region also remain one of the sides capable of causing major surprises after showing impressive performances during regional qualifiers.

In Group B, Rank from Nkhotakota have been drawn against Mangochi based Nkopola and central region outfit Umodzi in another battle expected to produce entertaining encounters.

FAM competitions manager, Clement Kafwafwa, said the championship will not only promote beach soccer growth but also help identify new talent for the national team.

Kafwafwa explained that the national team technical panel will closely monitor players during the competition as preparations continue for future Africa Cup of Nations beach soccer assignments.

The 2025 National Beach Soccer Championship will take place from May 16 to 17 in Nkhotakota, with fans expected to witness fierce competition as teams fight for national glory on the sands.
