Lilongwe, December 21: Malawi’s representatives in the continental club tourney Big Bullets have been paired with Fomboni Club de Moheil of the Comoros.
Bullets return to the continental stage after over a decade in the wilderness and will be favourites to go through to the next stage against the islanders.
The Comoro Islands form an archipelago of volcanic islands situated off the South East coast of Africa, to the east of Mozambique and north west of Madagascar and are not renowned for their football though Bullets will be advised to treat them with respect as anything can happen in knock out competitions.
In 2004 Bullets made history by becoming the first Malawian Club to reach the quarter final stage of the tourney.
Other notable ties involving clubs from the COSAFA Regions include South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs who a tie with Seychelles nine-time league title winners St. Michel United while Kaizer Chiefs will be in a Cosafa derby as they kickoff their African journey with a home game against 12-time Botswana league champions, Township Rollers that has Malawi’s forgotten start Lawrence Majawa in its ranks.
Holders ES Setif, Coton Sport, AC Leopards, Al Ahly , TP Mazembe , CS Sfaxien and Esperance were exempt from preliminary round draw.
A total of 58 clubs were in the draw and the matches are set to take place on 13,14, 15 Feb 2015 and the second legs will be played from 27,28 Feb, 01 March 2015.
