Bingu National Stadium gets CAF certification: declared fit to host international matches

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)- The Confederation of African Football (CAF) this week, certified the newly-built magnificent Bingu National Stadium (BNS) and declared the multi-purpose complex fit to host international matches.

Bingu Stadium built with Chinese Money

The African soccer body determination is a relief for the national flag carrier Flames, ahead of its Champion of African Nations (CHAN) preliminary round second-leg against Madagascar, on April 29, 2017. With the certification paves the way for the match to be played at the stadium.

The CAF delegation, led by Kenyan Muhammad Issa, was in the country a week ago to inspect the stadium, which has capacity to sit 40,000 spectators.

CAF club licensing manager and competitions division head, Ahmed Harraz told our sister Daily Nation newspaper that the country’s newly-built stadium was finally approved.

This means that Kamuzu Stadium in the commercial city of Blantyre, will no longer continue to host international matches as it has previously been marked unsafe for such games.

Both Football Association of Malawi (FAM) General-Secretary and BNS Manager Alfred Gunda and Eric Ning’ang’a, said they had no doubt that would get CAF’s approval.

They said efforts were made to secure the certification. The complex will start hosting high-profile international soccer matches.

“The public should be assured that we will guard this facility jealously, so that it continues to be a shining beacon in the country’s sport infrastructure,” BNS Manager Ning’ang’a assured.

The Chinese Government-funded capital city landmark, was completed in November, 2015, but it required extra-funding to the tune of MK841 million from the Malawi Government, to construct a sewer line, and erect electricity connection cables, among others.
