Boko leaves Malawi happily after successful bilateral talks with Chakwera

President of Botswana, Advocate Duma Gideon Boko leaves Malawi after three-day state visit

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)- President of Botswana, Advocate Duma Gideon Boko has left Malawi happily through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) on Monday morning, July 7, 2025 marking his three- day visit to the country.

Boko was seen off at KIA by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, Minister of Trade and Industry, Vitumbiko Mumba, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Patricia Kainga Nangozo and other government officials.

During his visit to Malawi, President Boko held bilateral talks with President Lazarus Chakwera on how the two countries can boost economic ties.

These economic ties falls on Malawi’s ATM Strategy in boosting productivity in agriculture, tourism and mining and bringing those products to manufacturing and value-addition.

Boko, however, expressed commitment to support Malawi in the area of mining by offering skills and expertise in order to boost the mining sector.

The two countries have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in trade and aqua-culture.

During his visit, President Boko also attended Malawi’s 61st Independence anniversary celebrations as guest of honour. 

At the celebrations, Boko said since independence in 1964, Malawi has been striving to be a prosperous and inclusive country.

President Boko also had the opportunity to explore historical sites at Kamuzu Mausoleum and went to parliament for the tree-planting ceremony.

The two nations already cooperate in areas such as education, health, banking and insurance.
