Bullets beat Nomads in TNM 2022 Super League opener

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-TNM Super League defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets FC have started their title defence on high note after defeating crosstown rivals Wanderers by two goals to one at Kamuzu Stadium in an opener of the 2022/2023 season.

Callisto Pasuwa’s boys, who went into the game as underdogs after the massive sweeping exercise which took place at the club during off season, showed stamina and interest to win their first game over their long time rivals.

Bullets players smile

The best player of the 2021 season Chimwemwe Idana opened the score sheet with just 16 minutes of play in the first half.

This half ended the host narrowly leading by a goal.Second half at 78th minute Vincent Nyangulu who also scored the lone goal when Wanderers defeated Bullets last season put the matters on level to bring back life and hopes to the Nomads supporters.

As it was thought the fierce battle would end in a draw Babatunde Adepoju scored at 74th minute but it was ruled out for offside.

Anthony Mfune who replaced Lanjesi Nkhoma inflicted the pain on Ng’onamo at 84th minute.

Few minutes later referee blew the whistle to end the match and yes Bullets was declared the winner of first Blantyre Derby in 2022/2023 Super League.

Assistant Coach for Nomads, Joseph Kamwendo, acknowledged the defeat saying they did whatever they could but things did not work out.

He then congratulated his counterpart for a win but vowed to bounce back.

Kamwendo further said being new technical panel with new players will take time for the team to jell.

Peter Mponda, Nyasa Big Bullets FC Vice Coach, was happy for the needed victory but the youngsters surprised the technical panel with their hardworking spirit.

He added they struggled in terms of possession than their neighbors.

Mponda added the win has given his youthful side a motivation to settle well soon than expected.

In another crucial battle in Karonga saw Malawi Defence Soldiers Kamuzu Barracks FC slaughtering the Crocodiles 3-1 at their own den Rukulu River and Kyungu River,Karonga Stadium.

Khumbo Msowoya scored the consolation goal for Ingwina at 43rd minute while Deus Nkutu, Chimwemwe Chisambi and Gregory Nachipo scored for the Soldiers.

At the Mzuzu Stadium the Stars from Kasungu were dimmed by Hammers.

Wongani Lungu converted the first spot kick of the season after a bad play from TN Stars at 24th minute before Edgar Mgagana sealed the sheet at 69th minute.

First day of the 2022/2023 season has produced nine goals from three games,one penalty has been awarded and Deus Nkutu of Kamuzu Barracks FC is the first player to score a goal.
