Bullets weigh CAF decision

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are facing a critical decision after qualifying for the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup, with the club yet to confirm whether they will participate despite earning the slot through their Castel Challenge Cup triumph.

The uncertainty comes as the club’s leadership admits continental competition was not part of their initial plans for this season, forcing them into fresh internal discussions on whether to take up the opportunity.

Club Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga says there is currently no firm position, emphasizing that the executive committee will need to carefully assess the situation before making a final call.

His remarks underline a cautious approach, suggesting the club is prioritizing proper planning over rushing into a demanding continental campaign without adequate preparation.

Football analyst Ibrahim Phiri, however, has urged the club to act quickly, warning that delays could affect their readiness if they eventually decide to participate.

He notes that CAF competitions require early planning, strong squad depth and solid financial backing due to the intensity and quality of opposition involved.

The Confederation Cup presents a major opportunity for Bullets to grow their reputation and give players valuable exposure on the African stage.

But entering the tournament without proper structures in place could prove costly, both competitively and financially.

Malawian clubs have previously struggled in continental football, often due to poor preparation and limited resources, a pattern Bullets appear keen to avoid.

Meanwhile, rivals Mighty Wanderers have already confirmed their participation in this year’s CAF Champions League, showing a more immediate commitment to continental action.
