LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi flag carriers at the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League| COSAFA Qualifiers taking place in Durban, South Africa, Ntopwa Super Queens lost 1-0 to the defending Champions Green Buffaloes FC from Zambia.
The match that took place at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium saw the Buffaloes dominating the Amagheto Kids in all areas as the Malawian side failed to keep possession of the ball.
Maleta Chilenga scored the lone goal of the game in the 26th minute resulting from poor defending from Ntopwa.
The first half ended with Green Buffaloes FC leading by a goal to nil. In the second half, Ntopwa became an improved side as they tried to launch several attacks but lacked composure in the final third.
Buffaloes missed several chances until the last whistle came up.
After the game Coach for Ntopwa FC James Sangala acknowledged the defeat and congratulated Green Buffaloes for the win.
“It was a good game as we knew it would be a different game from what we had against Lesotho Defence Force because today’s opponents have players who have got great technical abilities. Though we have lost the game we have drawn some positives going into our next game on Sunday against the Double Action Ladies”,
” Experience was a big gap in the game, you saw how our opponents were exchanging passes. We gave them much respect in the first half but in the second half after we talked to them, they started playing and we had hope that we could get something from the much but they held on their 1-0 lead.
“I am upbeat that we will score more goals against Double Action Ladies and sail through to the semifinals. Our defense has been solid conceding 2 goals I think we will not change a lot in our final group match”, explains Sangala.
Green Buffaloes FC lead group A with 4 points tied with Double Action Ladies who earlier defeated the Lesotho Defence Force 1-0 and are second positioned.
The Amagheto Kids are in third position after sharing power 1-1 in their opening match against the Lesotho Defence Force. The Soldiers from Lesotho anchor the group with 1 point.
Ntopwa Super Queens final group A match will be against Double Action Ladies on Sunday.
Only two teams from the group will qualify for the semifinals of the tournament, however, the Malawian side still has chances if they can win with more goals against Double Action Ladies.
