MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has with immediate effect postponed the Total African Cup of the nations 2021 qualifiers due to the pandemic of Corona Virus.
Through a press statement signed by Caf’s Acting Secretary General, Abdel Bah, the football governing body in Africa says it cannot compromise the health and safety of its stakeholders but rather monitor closely the impact of Corona Virus crisis.
“After studying the current situation, Caf has decided to postpone the Total African Cup of the nations 2021 qualifiers, scheduled from 25 to 31 March 2020. We will share with you a proposal of a new calendar that will be communicated on a second step, according to the evolution of the Corona Virus situation,” read the statement in part.
Corona Virus, which broke out in Wuhan, Japan, has now been declared as a pandemic by World Health Organisation (WHO).
Since its emergence few months ago, it has claimed over 3, 000 lives.
African countries such as Cameroon, Algeria and South Africa have already registered confirmed cases of the disease.
