Calls for Transparency and Justice in Wake of Saulos Chilima’s Plane Crash

By Burnett Munthali

In a recent Facebook post, Julius Mithi has brought to light the ongoing concerns surrounding the aftermath of a devastating plane crash. Mithi expressed his frustration with the current situation, writing: “A Chibale kukhala ngati ayamba kufukula Manda Anzathu anamwalira pa ngozi ya ndege ija. Apa sizinayende.” This translates to: “It seems that efforts to exhume the remains of our relatives who perished in the plane crash have not yet begun.”

Mithi's comment reflects a growing frustration among the affected families and the public. It suggests that there has been a lack of progress in addressing the needs of the victims' families, particularly regarding the exhumation and proper handling of the remains of those who died in the crash.

In response to Mithi’s concerns, Abiti Manice added her voice to the debate, stating: “Ndipo afukule, autopsy ipangidwe ya private, outside Malawi. Gulu la Zifwamba zokupha linyaaaa.” This translates to: “They should exhume the bodies and conduct a private autopsy outside Malawi. The group responsible for this tragedy is lying.”

Manice’s response calls for an independent investigation into the causes of the crash. She suggests that a private autopsy conducted outside of Malawi may provide more reliable results, reflecting a lack of confidence in the local investigation processes. Her comment implies that there might be a cover-up or misinformation regarding the crash, further fueling public dissatisfaction.

The exchange between Mithi and Manice highlights the pressing need for transparency and accountability in the aftermath of the tragedy. It underscores the families’ and community’s desire for a thorough and impartial investigation, as well as proper handling of the victims’ remains. The call for an independent autopsy outside of Malawi points to broader concerns about trust and integrity in the ongoing investigation.

As the situation unfolds, it remains crucial for authorities to address these concerns and ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families.
