The European Investment Bank has signed a EUR 20.5 million loan agreement with the Malawian Ministry of Finance in support of the Northern Regional Water Board.
The loan will support the Ministry’s 2016-2019 investment programme, which aims to optimise the use of available water resources as well as increase the supply capacity, to bridge the gap between supply and demand for the populations of the cities of Mzuzu, Ekwendeni, Chitipa and Mzimba in the north of the country. The project mainly consists of upgrading and extending the water distribution system, upgrading water treatment works, reducing leakages, and improving network management and water supply to low income areas. LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi’s 46th Session of Parliament and 2016/2018 budget meeting adjourned on Friday, among its achievements will be the legacy of hard working opposition block.
The eight-week meeting, which was opened with State of the Nation (SONA) address by President Peter Mutharika, did not bring much hope to Malawians on the social-economic upfront. The Parliament however passed a MK1.3 trillion 2017/2018 national budget with calls from lawmakers for fiscal discipline in its implementation. KASUNGU-(MaraviPost) – One of Malawi’s major telecommunications company Airtel, on Wednesday donated MK1.5 million towards the hosting of this year’s national science fair.
The eighth fair is slated for ?Sunday, July 2 to Wednesday, July 5, 2017?, at Kamuzu Academy in the central district of Kasungu.
This is the second consecutive year Airtel Malawi is making the donation towards the hosting of the science fair.

These holidays are affecting the timely completion of construction work such as the ones his company is working on, new electricity sub-stations under the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA).

The Japanese Government provided ¥1.947 billion (approximately US $17.7 million) to the Malawi Government to assist in expanding and upgrading the Domasi College of Education.
Speaking during the signing ceremony at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in Lilongwe, Hirotsuku Ikeda, who is Charge d’Affaires ad Interim of Japan to Malawi, said the grant was a sign of how his Government is committed in developing Malawi’s education sector.
“Japan is committed in supporting Malawi in the education sector. This is a grant which will help in the Project for Expanding and Upgrading of Domasi College of Education. Karonga First Grade Magistrate Court, on Wednesday convicted and sentenced 27 Ethiopians to pay K20, 000 fines each, for entering the country without travelling documents.
The 27 are among the 26 Ethiopians, Maravi Post reported on Tuesday that they were arrested on Monday at Katili in the area of Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga district.
