“Provide farm inputs now to avert next year’s hunger crisis”-MaBLEM tells Chakwera leadership

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s Malawi Civil Society-Led Black Economic Empowerment Movement (MaBLEM) has urged President Lazarus Chakwera’s government to make fertilizer available to the farmers by all means necessary to avoid creating food shortages and food crisis.

MaBLEM observes that Malawi is already rearing from a food crisis caused by natural disaster.

The grouping adds that people are still grappling with the effects and cannot afford another crisis.

Addressing the news conference on Friday, November 29, 2024 in the capital Lilongwe, MaBLEM board Chairperson Robert Mkwezalamba expressed worrisome over government delay in honoring contractual agreement with Eastbridge Estate in providing fertilizer in time for 2024/2024 growing season.

Mkwezalamba observes, “It is strange that Government has taken obligations and responsibility which are meant to help Malawi population with fertilizer, yet the same Government is dragging its feet”.

“To avert the forex challenges, Malawi entered and signed a contract agreement with Eastbridge Estate SRL to supply 600,000MT (300,000MT for NPK and 300,000MT for UREA) of fertilizer and in return be paid through commodities of equivalent amount. Such commodities include, volumes of groundnuts, soya beans, pigeon peas, rice, sugar, sorghum, cotton among others.

“Both the commodity exchange agreement and fertilizer contracts were agreed to and sealed between December 2022 and December 2023. We have it on record that the deal between Government and Eastbridge stalled following the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture that the contract be handed over to Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund of Malawi (SFFRFM) which is a government organization that deals with fertilizer,” reads in part MaBLEM statement.

The grouping therefore authenticate Eastbridge Estate capacity to provide enough fertilizer for the country.

“We undertook and has concluded an in-depth investigation into the fertilizer supply contract between the Government of Malawi and Eastbridge Estate. The investigation sought to establish genuineness of the contract, allegations of corruption and procedural irregularities surrounding this vital agreement including reasons why it isn’t being honored while further assessing any liabilities should government default.

“Our findings have verified that the agreements and subsequent addenda were executed within fairly negotiated legal frameworks, with documented processes and approvals at every stage”, explains Mkwezalamba co-signed the statement alongside MaBLEM National Coordinator Fryson Chodzi.

The grouping banks the agreement on legality of the Contract between Eastbridge and SFFRFM, “From the onset, negotiations on the contract and various addenda’s were executed to govern the commodity exchange between the company and government which later was novated to SFFRFM.

“The process has all the necessary legal protocols for all the three. As such it is our clear findings that the contracts are legally binding and enforceable among all the parties involved”.

On the looming agriculture crisis, MaBLEM has established that the country faces huge shortages of fertilizer as the growing season for the 2024/2025 commences.

“Delays in fertilizer procurement risk undermining the Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP), directly affecting millions of smallholder farmers who rely on timely inputs for their livelihoods. Disruption in fertilizer supply compromises agricultural productivity, exacerbating food shortages and increasing reliance on imports”.

On supply of Fertilizer under the contract, MaBLEM says, “The findings have established that under the contract obligation agreed by Government, Eastbridge and SFFRFM, they have legally agreed that Eastbridge will supply 50,000MT (25,000MT of NPK and 25,000MT of UREA) of fertilizer as early as 8th December 2024 in order to mitigate the existing shortages”.

MaBLEM therefore appeals further, “Government should learn to respect its contracts that will lead to availability of the fertilizer in the country. We are of the view that Government enters into contracts with the intentions to honor such and there is no reasons why it cannot honour duly and legally entered contracts.

“Government should respect its undertaking which otherwise will lead to unnecessary lawsuits, thereby putting public resources at risk”.

The grouping urges further, “Government MUST always ensure that there is prudence in committing the nation. In regards to the fertilizer commitment and contracts, Government must assemble all fertilizer contracts and agreements already signed and undertake a due diligence to assess their viability at this point in time to ensure there are no further legal consequences on its part.

“Efforts must be made to ensure that contracts are only signed after a due diligence is undertaken to avoid further lawsuits”.

Malawi is currently facing a significant hunger crisis, exacerbated by adverse weather conditions and economic challenges.

According to Ministry of Agriculture data, over 5.7million of Malawians are at risk of severe food insecurity due to reduced agricultural output and rising food prices.

The situation has prompted international humanitarian responses to assist affected populations.

In his public address on November 27, 2024, the President Chakwera confirmed that the government, with support from partners, has reached out to over 4.5 Million Malawians with food aid and is yet to reach out to over 1.2 Million Malawians.

“UTM isn’t for sale, I’m here to stay and form next government in 2025”-Dr Dalitso Kabambe

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The newly elected UTM President Dr Dalitso Kabambe has hinted at critics’ speculation that he joined the party to take to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the 2025 General Elections.

Addressing the news conference on Thursday, November 28, 2024, in the capital Lilongwe, Dr Kabambe hinted that he is in UTM Party as its genuine leader and ready to form next government.

The former Reserve Bank Of Malawi (RBM) Governor assures, “UTM is my home! I’m here to stay. This noble party is not for sale. Be assured that with UTM will form next government in 2025 end Malawi’s social-economic ills.

“My appeal to all Malawians is to go and register that we set legitimate government with economic sound for better nation”.

Below is Dr. Kabambe’s statement addressing UTM members and nation as new leader of the party…

Fellow Malawians, Greetings!
Today, as I stand before you, I feel a profound sense of gratitude and responsibility. I extend my heartfelt thanks from Nsanje to Chitipa for placing your trust in me as the President of the UTM.

The journey ahead of us is not a small one; it is monumental. We have a significant task before us: to rebuild our party and to foster unity among our members.

Let me remind each one of you that the UTM is not just a political party; it is a movement—a movement owned by the people and for the people.

It is our collective responsibility to create an atmosphere of unity, collaboration, and peace within our ranks.

I am committed to being a leader who encourages an open-door policy.

In our movement, every voice matters, and every opinion counts. Together, we will ensure that our ideals are not lost but are cherished andupheld.

As we carry the weight of our responsibilities, let us not forget the legacy of our founding president, the late Dr Saulous Chilima. It is imperative that we honor his vision and guidance.

We must embody the principles that led to the founding
of this great movement. I pledge to protect and advance the SKC legacy, embedding it within the very DNA of UTM during my tenure.

We must seek the truth about the tragic accident that took him from us, and ensure that it is addressed with the seriousness it warrants.

I also urge each one of you to respect the foundational members of our party. Their wisdom and experience are vital as we move forward. UTM is a people driven movement, and it is your voices and your stories that will guide us.

I am devoted to defending the rights of every UTM member and every Malawian. It is every citizen’s constitutional right to live free from fear, free from violence, and free from oppression.

Our objective is clear: to unify our movement, harness our collective strength, and work tirelessly to form the next government. But let this not be merely an aspiration; let it be our commitment.

We must all surrender ourselves to this duty—to fight against tribalism, nepotism, corruption, regionalism, and cronyism that threaten our integrity and unity

Let us approach this task with unwavering determination. I have absolute faith that together, we can lead the UTM into a new era, one where we reach every corner of this country with a message of hope, unity, and change.

We can build the Malawi we deserve—a Malawi where every child dreams without limits, where every citizen thrives, and where justice, peace, and prosperity reign.

As we move forward, let us remind ourselves: Osaopa, Osafuka, Osatopa. Let these words guide us as we walk this journey hand in hand. Together, we will rise, together we will overcome, and together we will achieve greatness.
Thank you.

Tragic! Dowa’s Mponera Lightening kills four students, injures two

DOWA-(MaraviPost)-Lightening has killed four students and injuring two at Mponera in the central district of Dowa.

Mponera Police Station publicist Macpatson Msadala told The Maravi Post that the incident occurred on November 29, 202 4 at around 17:00 hours at Namwiri Trading Centre.

Msadala therefore identified the deceased from Kaungwe Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) as Fatsani Chimkwambala, Precious Singini, Alikanel Thomas and Amosi Chapingasa.

The police publicist said, “It is said that the four(deceased) were coming from school and they went to rest at their houses.

“Whilst they were inside the house lightening hit them and they all fainted and were pronounced dead upon arrival at Mtengowathenga Mission Hospital and the two are receiving treatment at the same hospital”.

Meanwhile, Mponela Police Station still advises all to remain indoors when it’s raining.

The incident comes barely weeks after lightening also killed 40 cows in Mchinji district.

My Take On It: Who or what do others see projected in our lives?

But by the grace of God, I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. —- 1 Corinthians 15:10

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”  Galatians 2:20

Heartiest congratulations to Dr. Dalitso Kabambe for his United Transformation (UTM) Primary election win, becoming the Presidential candidate for the 2025 Malawi Tri-partite elections! His win led to the defeat of three contenders Kambala (UTM founder), Dr. Mtumbuka, and former UTM Secretary-General strong-person Patricia Kaliati.

My serious advice on this, as celebrations and analyses take their round, is that the Presidential candidate Kabambe must not forget or throw away the three contenders (Kambala, Mtumbuka, and Kaliati). He, the Party and indeed the whole country needs them.

For unity, for the wealth of contributions, they can and will bring to party and country, and for modelling how party politics must be run. Presidential candidate Kabambe should make major plans to incorporate them for success in 2025 as well as a fruitful presidency. Let the UTM bring back the brilliance of the SKF tenure.

On November 18, 2024, I turned 70 years old; to commemorate this, there were a two-week long celebrations: 1) my nephew took me, his Mum and wife to a Christian concert; 2) my son came to visit me from the UK; 3) my best friend/sister came (in a surprise fashion) from Malawi); 4) my cousin did the airport transfers for my son (Dulles Airport is a maze!); and gifts, over 300 Facebook wishes and church a sister compiled an amazing rendition of my favorite CeCe Winans song (That’s My King). Each one remembering me in a manner I did not know had even registered in friends and family, but they poured out their love while celebrating me as they knew of me.

Getting back to the UTM elections in wins and the defeats, a recent article took a stand on Kaliati’s failure to secure winning votes on the party’s presidential candidacy as a reflection of “a troubling trajectory in her political career.”

The article further went on to say that “her decline can largely be attributed to a series of unfortunate and controversial statements made over the years.” The author of this pronouncement does not give a single example of the statements, but says the “utterances have been reckless and divisive,” hence marking the end of Kaliati’s over 20-year political career in Malawi.

I refute these allegations and beg to differ from this stand, as other Malawian political analyst pundits must likewise refute this position. Failure is not an indicator of decline in any sector of the human race.

It is merely a turning point. Kaliati, has her legacy etched firmly on Malawi’s political map. She entered the political scene during the UDF party presidency of Dr. Bakili Muluzi, served in Bingu wa Mutharika’s DPP, and is among the founder members of the UTM.

In all three parties, Honorable Patricia’s brand and legacy has been dazzling, brilliant, and remarkable. New UTM leader Kabambe would be walking into the grey zone should he not give Kaliati a role ln the party of when he forms his government upon winning the presidency in 2025. Below are five examples of the Kaliati factor in Malawi politics.

1. As tourism minister in Muluzi’s term, she put backpackers (low-budget foreign tourists) on notice when they were building shantytowns along Malawi’s lakeshore.

At one of the shabby resorts, the owner complained that she had traveled on her inspection tour with journalists, she responded in pure Kaliati style: “Whom did you want me to come here with, my husband?”

2. During Bingu’s early tenure as president and after he had broken away from the UDF (forming the DPP), some UDF politicians threatened me for my writings and MBC Mizwanya radio program in support of Bingu. They said they were making plans to silence me. She was then minister of information. When she learned of this, Kaliati took her the recordings and writings to the President. I shall always recall the support both she and former President Dr. Joyce Banda (then minister of foreign affairs) gave in their interventions.

3. As a diplomat in New York, I was privileged to negotiate in the resolution to end the global malaise of child marriage. As minister of women and children, Kaliati negotiated with her fellow parliamentarians to localize the global ruling on pushing marriage of boys and girls to 18 years. Malawi was the first country to end child marriage through a country law.

4. Still as minister of women and children, Kaliati in 2016 brough a team of champions of advocates in ending child marriage in Malawi. Among them was the globally popular Malawi Child Marriage Terminator, Sr. Chief Theresa Kachindamoto. (She now a global icon in her own right).

5. Kaliati has been the ever-present woman in red UTM regalia since former VP SKC trotted out of the DPP to form the UTM. Through her voice at political party rallies, Kaliati enjoyed a lot of respect, recognition, and resounding support from UTM President SKC. As much as SKC was a crowd puller and exhibited great crown control, Kaliati was and is a rubble-rouser. SKC brand of crown pull was quieter full of proverbs, Kaliati’s brand was loud, distinct, vociferous and raucous. Both styles are grand in their own rights.

Patricia Kaliati firmly etched on Malawi’s political map. UTM needs and can rightly benefit from her distinct and unique brand of political clout.

Osaopa! Osafooka! Osatopa!

“Dont use handouts to coax voters to register”-Chisankho Watch warns political parties

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s electoral governing body Chisankho Watch has expressed worrisome over the use of social protection programmes to coerce voters to register for 2025 General elections.

The consortium of four organisations, namely the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP), the Public Affairs Committee (PAC), the Gender Justice Unit, and the Meeting Hub (mHub) observes that the practice is a recipe for corruption in electoral process.

Addressing the news conference on Friday, November 29, 2024, Chisankho Watch Board Chairperson Bishop Gilford Matonga observed that handouts “Undermine the integrity of the electoral process and constitute voter bribery which is an offence under Section 41 of the Political Parties Act (2018).

Chisankho Watch Board Chairperson Bishop Gilford Matonga in the middle addressing the news conference

Bishop Matonga disclosed that the malpractice occurred in the central region were coaxed to register because maize distribution was used as a condition.

Bishop Matonga said the incidences were recorded in Salima, Ntchisi, and Nkhotakota.

“Chisankho Watch also recorded the provision of cash handouts amounting to MK1,000 to each registrant in Mchinji South West Constituency and Nkhatabay Central Constituency. This practice undermines integrity of electoral process,” worried Matonga.

He therefore appealed to Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, “To strengthen enforcement mechanisms to address voter bribery and undue coercion as outlined in Section 41 of the Political Parties Act (2018).

“Enforce penalties for parties found to be spreading disinformation in line with the political Parties Act (2018)”.

The consortium therefore concluded that the second phase of the voter registration exercise from November 9 to 22, 2024 was improved in voters education despite low turnout of citizens to register.

Atupele Muluzi ready to redeem Malawians from clueless leadership in 2025

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) leader Atupele Muluzi says is now matured and ready to govern Malawi with insightful leadership.

Muluzi had an exclusive interview with Zodiak Television on Thursday, November 28, 2024.

HERE ARE TEN KEY POINTS UDF LEADER ATUPELE MULUZI MADE IN HIS INTERVIEW WITH ZBS ON THURSDAY, 29TH NOVEMBER 2024

  1. Presidential Bid and Vision: Atupele Muluzi confirmed his intention to be on the ballot in 2025, emphasizing that Malawians will vote for him to lead the country as President.
  2. Priority areas for development: Key focus areas include food security, energy, export promotion, education reform, tourism revitalization, and healthcare, with a strong emphasis on ensuring Malawi becomes food secure.
  3. Economic independence: Muluzi emphasized that Malawi has enough resources to generate wealth, advocating for innovative thinking and establishing a Sovereign Wealth Fund to reduce reliance on foreign aid.
  4. Reforming governance: He proposed a new leadership style where the President is seen as a servant, not a boss, encouraging citizens to address him as “Mr. President” instead of “His Excellency.”
  5. Political strategy and alliances: The UDF is not considering alliances at the moment, intending to independently contest and serve Malawians. Muluzi reflected on past alliances as limiting voter choice.
  6. Thangata System and farmer empowerment: Criticized the exploitative system where poor farmers are disadvantaged, he promised to end this cycle and introduce policies to protect and empower smallholder farmers.
  7. Elections and democratic processes: He dismissed criticism of his uncontested candidacy within the UDF, comparing it to global examples like Donald Trump’s nomination in the Republican Party, asserting it reflects the will of the people.
  8. Changing voter mentality: Muluzi encouraged Malawians to vote based on hope and a vision for better governance rather than anger or frustration.
  9. Learning from the past: He acknowledged the lessons from UDF’s loss in 2020 and his own temporary resignation, stating that he used the time to travel, learn, and return with renewed insights to serve Malawi.
  10. Generational leadership: While recognizing his family’s political legacy, Muluzi emphasized his independence and the importance of learning from past leaders while addressing contemporary challenges.

“Fuel crisis pushes goods and services prices high by 50%”-CAMA

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Consumers Association of Malawi (CAMA) says ongoing nationwide fuel shortages has significantly affected the prices of goods and services across the country.

CAMA’s Executive Director, John Kapito, stated in a press release on Wednesday, November 28, that market inspections indicate that the prices of most goods have risen by an average of 50%.

He noted that transportation costs have surged by 70%; for example, the price of sugar has increased by 33%, while cooking oil has gone up by 57%.

Soap has gone up 70%, with the most severe impact felt in bus fares and the transportation of goods, which have escalated by an average of 80%.

Kapito lamented that the severe fuel shortages have led to skyrocketing transportation costs, urging for regulated fuel price increases to mitigate the scarcities arising from import challenges.

“These challenges have placed pressure on the financial instruments used for fuel imports, resulting in the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) accumulating debts exceeding two trillion kwacha due to lower fuel pump prices.

MERA’s failure to implement the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) has exposed the fuel industry and market to foreign exchange challenges and ongoing losses at fuel pumps,” said Kapito.

CAMA had previously warned the nation about the impending fuel shortages, emphasizing that these shortages are more detrimental than gradual increases in fuel prices for the economy, transporters, and consumers.

He expressed concerns about potential difficulties that citizens would face, such as long queues at filling stations and the broader economic impact that the scarcities would bring, effectively halting business activities.

Unfortunately, he noted that this warning was met with negative reactions from some consumers and a particular member of Parliament.

CAMA criticized this response, describing it as uninformed and dismissive, especially from an individual who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Nonetheless, Kapito appreciated the understanding shown by the Natural Resources and Climate Change Parliamentary Committee regarding the challenges that fuel shortages would pose for Malawians as a result, both CAMA and the Committee feel vindicated in the advice they provided, which has unfortunately turned into a nightmare for consumers and the economy.

He highlighted that MERA has robust mandates and laws that empower it to regulate the fuel market effectively, ensuring that consumers pay fair prices and that fuel importers receive adequate compensation for maintaining a continuous fuel supply.

The Energy Regulatory Law guarantees MERA’s independence and outlines transparent methodologies for determining fuel pump prices.

However, Kapito pointed out that MERA’s independence is under threat as it struggles to assert its authority and provide technical and financial guidance on fuel pricing.

He stated that MERA’s failure to utilize the Automatic Pricing Mechanism, designed to assist in decision-making for price adjustments, has led to the current fuel supply challenges that are paralyzing the entire economy.

“MERA’s mandate allows it to announce gradual price increases or decreases independently, without interference from the executive branch or Parliament, ensuring smooth execution of its responsibilities,” he added.

He urges consumers to consider whether it is preferable to have regulated fuel pump prices that adjust gradually or to face unnecessary shortages, which result in long queues and the need to buy fuel from the black market at double the official prices.

Kapito encourages MERA to conduct civic awareness sessions in collaboration with the Natural Resources and Climate Change Parliamentary Committee to educate select members of Parliament who may lack understanding of the regulated fuel pricing processes.

Malawi FA loses former coach Mwase case, to pay MK440m

By Edwin Mbewe

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has been ordered to pay the former Flames coach, Meck Mwase MK440 million in compensation for unlawful termination of the contract, redeployment and constructive dismissal.

The Industrial Relations Court (IRC) in Blantyre, made the order on Thursday.

Passing her judgment, IRC deputy chairperson Edna Bodole said this is the required pay for Mwase’s remaining period of his contract in the same or similar wage scale as former Flames expatriate coaches, Mario Mariana Marinica and Ronny Van Geneugden (RVG), who were his successor and predecessor respectively.

According to the Nation Newspaper, Bodole however, removed motor vehicle allowance, insurance cover, annual gold card membership and life insurance from the list of possible benefits that Mwase deserved.

At the time of his dismissal in April 2022, Mwase was receiving at least K1.7million (about $1000) as his monthly salary while Marinica was getting $8,500 (about 14.7 million at the current exchange rate). RVG’s pay was at least $7500) about K12.9 million).

Mwase’s lawyer David Kanyenda, who was accompanied by the coach, said although the pay is less than their expected total of at least K518 million, they were happy with the outcome.

“It is good that local coaches should get such a fair justice from the courts when oppressed, considering that Mwase did well by qualifying the national team to the AFCON finals yet expatriates were getting good monies without bringing in the results”, said Kanyenda.

“This is a satisfactory outcome that heralds a positive trajectory towards attaining social justice in the football industry, particularly on the coaching landscape,” he added.

On his part FAM’s lawyer Luciano Mickeus, who was with the body’s general secretary Alfred Gunda at the court, said they will discuss on whether to make an appeal.

“We will discuss with our clients on how we should go about the matter”, he said.

Football Association of Malawi fired Mwase with a year left on his contract in April 2022 at it’s executive committee meeting in Mangochi, where they replaced him with Marinica, who was initially the technical director.

Later, FAM redeployed Mwase as under-23 national football team coach, but the coach turned down the offer and resorted to suing the local football governing body.

Mwase guided the Flames to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon being being ‘demoted’ to an assistant coach as Marinica took charge of the team.

Payback Time: Mwase Wins Flames Dismissal Case

Mwase Wins Case Vs FAM
Mwase Wins Flames Dismissal Case

The Industrial Relations Court (IRC) in Blantyre has dealt a significant blow to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), ordering the organization to pay former Flames coach Meck Mwase a staggering K440 million in compensation for unlawful termination of contract, redeployment, and constructive dismissal.

According to IRC deputy chairperson Edna Bodole, the compensation amount is equivalent to Mwase’s entire 36-month contract, which is on par with the salaries of former Flames expatriate coaches Romanian Mario Marinica and Belgian Ronny Van Geneugden (RVG), his successor and predecessor, respectively.

However, Bodole clarified that the compensation package does not include motor vehicle allowance, insurance cover, annual gold card membership, and life insurance, which were initially part of the benefits Mwase was entitled to.

Mwase’s lawyer, David Kanyenda, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, despite the compensation being lower than their expected total of at least K518 million. “We succeeded on equal pay because the court has found that Meck Mwase was discriminated against because he was placed on an inferior wage scale compared to the expatriate coaches,” Kanyenda said.

On the other hand, FAM’s lawyer, Luciano Mickeus, hinted that the organization may appeal the decision. “We will sit down to discuss whether to appeal the matter,” Mickeus said.

The case dates back to 2022 when Mwase was fired by FAM with a year left on his contract.

He was subsequently redeployed to coach the Malawi under-23 national football team, but he turned down the offer and decided to sue FAM instead.

Mwase’s dismissal was widely criticized, with many viewing it as unfair and unjust.

The former Flames coach had guided the team to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Cameroon before being ‘demoted’ to an assistant coach as Marinica took charge of the team.

The IRC’s decision is a significant victory for Mwase and a blow to FAM’s reputation.

It remains to be seen whether FAM will appeal the decision or accept the court’s ruling.

One thing is certain, however: Mwase’s perseverance and determination have finally paid off.

“There is no dignity in begging”-UTM leader Kabambe chides Chakwera’s address

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The newly elected UTM Party Dr. Dalitso Kabambe has told President Lazarus Chakwera to stop begging international agencies, and individuals to address Malawi’s social-economic challenges arguing that “there is no dignity in begging”.

Dr. Kabambe, the former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Governor observed that Malawians’ challenges will not be solved through begging.

The UTM leader cited Chakwera’s notion of asking for aid from individuals, and international agencies to sort Malawi challenges.

Dr. Kabambe told the news conference on Thursday, November 27, 2024, in the capital Lilongwe that Malawi’s prevailing socioeconomic challenges are man-made that require decisive and insightful leadership.

“Chakwera should not attribute current prevailing challenges to all of us. It is a man-made challenge due to leadership failures to govern. Solutions are there to address the prevailing challenges including tightening fiscal, monetary, and exchange rate.

“Chakwera is clueless to address prevailing challenges. The current leadership has failed to address nepotism, tribalism, regionalism, and cruelties which have paralyzed Malawi’s economic agenda,” said Dr. Kabambe.

The UTM leader rebuked Chakwera for failing to fire incompetent public servants who have contributed to economic mess.

Dr. Kabambe told Chakwera to fire Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola Banda, RBM Governor Wilson Banda, Home Affairs Minister Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, NOCMA and MERA chief executive officers.

He therefore assured the nation that UTM is ready to govern Malawi in 2025 saying the party will go sole on the ballot paper.
