BLANTYRE (Maravipost)—CCAP Blantyre Synod’s Advisory Council, which comprises Very Reverend Silas Ncozana and Reverends Rodney Bona and Saulos Chtsulo among others, is accusing the Synod’s leadership of shielding the church’s ministers who are embroiled in sexual scandals and those caught drinking beer at various drinking joints.
The Advisory Council has also observed that the church is engulfed with nepotism with some reverends ministering in the church not because of calling but as a means of earning a living.
The selection of students to pursue theology studies Zomba Theological College is also marred by corruption, according the Advisory Council.
“Some reverends have been moved to churches that have more resources than others because they come from the same area with synod management officials.
“While others have been transferred to churches facing challenges as a form of punishment for not helping incumbent church leaders during elections,” reads the Advisory Councils’ open letter to the Synod Leadership and its Presbyteries.
But officials from the Presbyteries within the Synod’s jurisdiction have denied the accusations, challenging the Advisory Council to use their maturity and follow proper procedures when advising the synod management.
“By writing the whole Synod, we believe that the so-called Advisory Council deliberately undermined the authority of the management and would like to set precedence where any management’s authority will be undermined at will,” reads part of the Presbyteries officials’ letter dated March 16, 2015.
There reverends have since asked the Synod management to convene a meeting where all concerned parties should present their issues in order to save the Synod from disintegration and shame.
Reverend Ncozana confirmed to have penned the letter but justified that it was meant to iron out internal issues.
The Synod’s General Secretary Reverend Alex Maulana confirmed the circulation of the two letters within the Synod but declined to comment on claims that there conflict in the church due to the two letters.
