DEDZA-(MaraviPost)-As part of easing mobility challenges among its volunteers, the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) of Dedza Diocese has distributed over 40 bicycles to help operations among its staff.

CCJP programs officer for the Diocese Horace Kasudze says the move will among other things motivate the volunteers as they will be able to perform their duties effectively.

“We noted that the role that our volunteers like paralegals and Community-Based Trainers were facing mobility challenges in their work, so we thought of helping them through these bicycles,” said Kasudze.

“We believe that the coming in of these bicycles will improve their workmanship and start performing their duties in an effective manner,” he added.

Kasudze stressed the need for the volunteers to embrace networking in an effort to enhance the growth of their Village Savings and Loans (VSL) groups.

” Whenever a group is working in isolation, it takes time to fully grow, collaboration is vital for the growth of VSL groups. You can come together as groups and get linked to financial institutions and get some loans to develop yourselves,” said Kasudze.

In his remarks, chairperson for Ganya paralegals Hanleck Ledson Nkhoma expressed optimism that bicycles will reduce the burden of covering long distances during their work.

He said they will intensify measures among fellow paralegals to ensure that the bicycles are used for intended purposes.

The bicycles were purchased under a project dubbed Promotion of gender equality and legal assistance for children in rural areas of Malawi and a tune of 6 million Kwacha was pumped in for the purchase.

The project is targeting areas of Traditional Authorities Ganya, Champiti in Ntcheu, and Chilikumwendo in Dedza districts.
